Basant Kite Duel, a kite-fighting arcade game

Play full screen

Basant Kite Duel is a game we designed and built ourselves, from the first idea to the privacy policy. It is inspired by Basant, the South Asian kite festival where flyers try to cut each other’s strings, and it plays in a browser or on an Android phone.

How it plays

  • Steer with a finger or mouse. Your kite follows your touch or cursor, so there is nothing to learn before the first flight.
  • Cut rival kites. When a rival’s string crosses yours, a quick tap, click or upward swipe saws through their line before they cut yours.
  • Every cut pays. Cuts earn coins, and chaining them builds a combo.
  • Wind keeps changing. Gusts push the kite around, so steering stays a skill rather than a reflex.
  • Each run ends in a story. A snapped line, a kite spiralling into the bazaar, or a streak the whole neighbourhood saw, each with its own short message.

Progression and rewards

  • Pilot levels. Cuts raise your pilot rank, which unlocks new kites and stronger strings in the in-game Store.
  • A Store for upgrades. Coins buy and upgrade kites (names such as Guddi, Gudda, Pari and Shaheen Baaz appear in the game) and strings, from a plain dor up to premium manjha and a Kevlar core, each with different handling and strength.
  • Power-ups. Short boosts such as Blade Boost, Double Coins, Steady Aim and Swift Wings change how a run plays out.
  • Achievements. Milestones like First Cut, 5, 10 and 20 streaks, 50 and 150 career cuts, and level goals give players something to chase after the first win.
  • Leaderboard and profile. Players enter a pilot name and see their best runs, with a regional championship as the long-term goal.
  • Atmosphere. Different skies, from Lahore rooftops to Paris and Tokyo at dusk, plus festival music you can switch off.

What we did

  • Game design. The rules, difficulty curve, upgrade tree, rewards and the tone of the in-game writing.
  • Development. A single-file HTML5 game that runs full screen on phones and desktops, with touch and mouse controls, and an installable, offline-capable build.
  • Android release. Packaging and Play Store listing, including the privacy policy and content rating.
  • Web version. The version you can play on this page, served from this website.
  • Privacy by design. No accounts, no logins and no personal data. Scores, unlocked kites and settings stay on the player’s own device.

Read the privacy policy

The full policy is at redtaghub.com/privacy-policy. It states plainly that the game collects nothing and requests no sensitive device permissions.
